Humor Me Selected by Kathryn Markel
I am so sick of snow, and I need art to cheer me up. Josette Urso's singular world vision always tickles me. Her colorful, colliding shapes give off such optimistic energy. Maeve D'Arcy's obsessive mark-making draws you in with patient, accumulating x's that speak to a deadpan wit. Fran Shalom's solid abstract forms start acquiring very distinct — and oddly familiar — personalities. Zuriel Waters' colorful sewn blobs become friendly aliens at home on the wall. Deborah Zlotsky's neon arches folding in an out back on create a colorful parallel dimension. And last, but not least, Roz Chast's The Woman Without a Core is pure laugh-out-loud.
