I opened my art gallery, Kathryn Markel Fine Arts, in 1975. As a dealer, I have spent my career trying to make art accessible to the regular person, trying to sell art that is reasonably priced, and trying to present art as a joy rather than an obscure, intellectual language that speaks only to an elite.

Debra MarcouxGallery Director
Debra Marcoux has over 25 years of experience in contemporary art ranging in fields of sales, advising, education and non-profit. She has served alongside Kathryn Markel as Director since 2004. In her tenure with the gallery, she has work with more than 100 artists, curated over 125 exhibitions, worked with a clientele of 1000’s of collectors, consultants, and corporations, and written extensively about contemporary art. Debra holds a B.F.A. in studio art with a concentration in Installation Art, and a M.A. in Contemporary Art History from Sotheby’s Institute, London. She currently lives in New Jersey with her husband, Lulu (the gallery mascot) and two very active kids.

Max moved to New York City in the summer of 2019 to pursue a Master's in Art History at Hunter College with an emphasis on Contemporary Art, which he plans to complete Fall 2021. He has worked, over the past 9 years, in galleries, museums, artist residencies, and auction houses in Upstate New York, New York City, Nebraska, and Maine with a strong passion for Contemporary Art. In addition to his professional experience, Max maintains a curatorial practice, which has included exhibitions that engage museum collections and emerging young artists.
