An Artist Reception will be held Thursday, September 11th from 6-8pm.

One of the few constants in our everyday experience is the inevitability of change. Although we are surrounded by illusions of stability, we inhabit a state of in-betweenness in all things both internal and external. The world we move through is perpetually shifting – light, atmosphere, and color can be felt and seen but they are not fixed.

Awareness of the liminality of the natural world has informed my work for many years, even as the work itself has fluctuated between landscape, geometric abstraction, and the current work, nature-infused abstraction.

Standing in the stream” is a reference to being open to our transitory experiences. While suggestive of the natural world, these paintings and drawings are abstractions intended to evoke sensations, rather than describing a particular place or time. I reach for visual experiences that feel both familiar and otherworldly with the intention to suggest, not define. The challenge is to convey the passage of time while making something that is concrete and unchanging.
