Nancy Cohen: Walking a Line

In my ongoing work I investigate environmentally fragile landscapes as well as the vulnerability of our individual and collective bodies. Waterways continue to be a major focus.  There is something almost human to me in their balance of fragility and strength, the way they persevere through adversity—much of it inflicted by us. 

 

During the pandemic my work has also been about isolation, about feeling or being trapped and longing for escape. Flight, both literal and imagined, has become a metaphor. Our fragile bodies and our fragile environment feel inextricably linked.
