These are new acrylic paintings by Antony Densham, a young artist from New Zealand. His work is based on the New Zealand landscape, and although I’ve never been to New Zealand, I understand it’s very beautiful and also very rocky. In these paintings, you can see how he’s articulated these shapes that go through and up the canvas.
Some of the paintings are lighter and watery, and others are denser, but his work always has pops of an odd color. The brushstrokes are very different, transparent and dense, and there’s a sense of geology, of one shape on top of the other. There’s also a great sense of space as you walk through and up the canvas.
