These watercolors were inspired by recent time spent in the port town of Otranto in Puglia, Italy. The intense, harsh light and rhythmic, lilting sway of its wind and water invited the use of fully saturated color. Taken together as a larger whole, these works comprise a larger overall rhythm, as the color of one band – the dark density of a Prussian blue, for instance - moves throughout from left to right, delineating its own path. In this way, these works through their arrangement imply musicality in their reading, and a continuity of experience from one moment to the next.
